Out of 75 entries, we were 1 of 3 shortlisted designs for the Gold Cast Cultural Precinct.
The chosen site is 11 hectares of centrally-located land at evandale, framed by the nerang river and views to the surfers paradise skyline and gold coast hinterland. the council’s vision conjures a dynamic, seamless interaction between indoor and outdoor experiences. the precinct will be activated through a rich and ever-changing artistic program and energized by cafes and restaurants, production studios and showrooms for arts and creative industries. when the gold coast hosts the 2018 commonwealth games, the cultural complex will showcase the city’s culture and creativity to the world.
The scheme is envisioned as spiritual and physical collage of events, influenced by the overlaying of diverse creative experiences. the project presents a plethora of external areas of recreation, both public and private. throughout the design, internal spaces continue the fluid character of the exterior. lyrically entwined paths and meadows, engage with visitors. ‘activity walls’ form armatures which facilitate spontaneous events. the complex is punctuated with a variety of small kiosks, ranging from small gallery pavilions to simple ‘soapbox’ stands – another layer of the collage.
